BACKGROUND: The Community Center Building will provide space for the JOCCA- operated nutrition site, as well as program space for both the Department on Aging and the Recreation and Parks Department. This facility will replace the Efland - Cheeks Multi- purpose Center on Highway 70, which is currently leased by the County. The process for planning the Community Center and Park has been as follows: March, 1991: Planning Committee is formed. Members include: Chair to Board of Commissioners, Assistant County Manager, JOCCA Director, Recreation and Parks Director, Director for the Department on Aging, and representatives from their Boards, Mary Bobbitt -Cooke and Thomas Vick, representing the Orange County Schools as well as numerous community residents. April, 1991: Architects from LCDA met with the Planning Committee to define the specific needs that the facility would be expected to address. June, 1991: Final meeting with Planning Committee to present plans and receive further comment.
