1
O R A N G E CO U N T Y
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: June 25, 1991
SUBJECT:
Em to ee Assistance Pro ram Contract
DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC HEARING:
Personnel
Action Agenda
Item #
Yes X No
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
Attachment 1 - Employee Assistance Elaine Holmes, Extension 2552
Program Contract
Addendum TELEPHONE NUMBERS
Hillsborough - 732 -8181
Durham -688 -7331
Mebane - 227 -2031
Chapel Hill- 967 - 9251/968 -4501
PURPOSE: To approve continuation of the Employee Assistance
Program contract with Human Affairs International for
the period July 1, 1991 through June 30, 1992.
BACKGROUND: The primary purposes of the Employee Assistance
Program (EAP) are 1) to enhance existing health and
safety programs to Orange County employees, 2) to
strengthen Orange County's compliance with the Drug
Free Workplace Act of 1988 and 3) to position Orange
County for more vigorous management of health care
costs. Human Affairs International provides Orange
County employees with face to face assessment and
counseling services; 24 hour a day emergency service;
referral to community resources as needed; coverage
for any personal problem and follow -up on all cases.
The Employee Assistance Program Contract was initially
approved by the Board of Commissioners in February
1990. The attached contract addendum proposes a
continuation of the current contract while
incorporating a contract amendment recommended by the
County Attorney. The amendment does not affect the
level or type of service provided by Human Affairs.
The contract continuation is at the same cost as the
current contract.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends the Board approve
continuation of the Employee Assistance Program
contract for the period July 1, 1991 through June 30,
1992 and authorize the Board Chair to sign the
Contract Addendum.
