I <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ACTION AGENDA <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT ITEM NO. .=-Cr <br />MEETING DATE JUNE 25, 1991 <br />SUBJECT: BID AWARD; AMBULANCES <br />DEPARTMENT: PURCHASING AND CENTRAL SERVICES PUBLIC HEARING YES _X —NO <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: PAM JONES <br />BID TABULATION EXT: 2650 <br />PHONE NUMBERS: HILLSBOROUGH 732 -8181 <br />HILLSBOROUGH 732 -9361 <br />CHAPEL HILL 967 -9251 <br />MEBANE 227 -2031 <br />DURHAM 688 -7331 <br />PURPOSE: To consider awarding a bid for Type One Walk- Through <br />Ambulances. <br />BACKGROUND: Funds were allotted in the 1990 -91 budget for the purchase of <br />two (2) Type One Walk - Through Ambulances. Specifications <br />were developed that would meet Orange County's needs. A <br />pre -bid conference was held on April 17, 1991 and all <br />interested ambulance vendors were invited to attend. The <br />conference was attended by six vendors. Bids were then <br />solicited from thirty -two (32) vendors. Bids were received <br />from eight (8) vendors. A tabulation of the bid is attached. <br />FIRST RESPONSE, INC. of Cary, North Carolina submitted the <br />lowest responsible bid at a delivered cost of $54,175.00 <br />per unit. <br />The Board has also approved the purchase of two additional <br />ambulances in the 1991 -92 Budget. The bid from FIRST <br />RESPONSE, INC. remains in effect for twelve (12) months, the <br />County can purchase those vehicles at the $54,175.00 bid <br />price as well. <br />RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends award of the bid to FIRST RESPONSE, <br />INC. for two units at the purchase price of $54,175.00 each. <br />And the Manager also recommends authorization to purchase two <br />additional units after July 1, 1991. <br />
