Box 8181 <br />Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br />Dear Sirs and Ma'ams: <br />I am writing in support of the Orange County Domestic Violence Coordinator <br />Project. <br />Once a woman steps forward to try to make the violence ;top, she enters <br />the court system,which is confusing at best. From forms, to questionings, <br />hearings, motions, continuances, more hearings to trial, the victim is con- <br />fronted with a new language of the law and a whole new arena. The lack of <br />guidance at this step can easily lend itself to further victimizing the <br />victim. <br />Mis is where the current Domestic Violence Coordinator Project comeas in play. <br />'11le advocate e.:pla.i.ns the system, answers the questions, assists in filling <br />out t ecks he forms and lends support and knowledge in court. She also ch back <br />on the case's present statis offering further assistance as client n <br />job description allows. eeds and <br />When weeks become months and hearings have been too numerous to track anymore, <br />I sometimes wonder if it is worth. it. I'm tired. Then the advocate calls and <br />shores me up once more. She explains what's next, how long is long enough <br />when waiting for an attorney to return a call, who to see and what to say. <br />And I'm back to the business of putting a family back together. <br />Sirs an,..l ma'ams, you have only to look into the eyes of my children, as I dr <br />to knew Lhis is a worthwhile project. For the first time in many years, they <br />nave peace in their home.
