26 <br />SECTION VI- EVALUATION: <br />A. What are the specific, measurable outcomes which will be used to measure the success or <br />failure of the OFF Initiative? <br />To be developed <br />B. Describe the method(s) that will be used to determine if these evaluation criteria are met. <br />The project will establish an evaluation committee to monitor the progress of <br />the project. It is important that the success of the program be monitored, not <br />only to fulfill the requirements of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, but to <br />document for County Government the need to provide matching funds so <br />that the project can continue after the initial five year period. Additional <br />funding will be sought from other sources to do a thorough evaluation, but <br />many of the outcomes can be measured through a fairly straightforward <br />approach. <br />The measurable outcomes that concern the status of the participating males <br />include the following benchmarks: <br />Younger Males <br />Passing grades <br />• Able to read at appropriate age level <br />• Regular school attendance <br />• Enjoyment from school <br />• Meaningful extracurricular activities <br />• Fewer discipline problems <br />• New coping skills, able to negotiate better with family around issues <br />(i.e. clothes selection, summer activities, chores) <br />• Able to communicate better <br />Older Males <br />• Six months of successful employment experience <br />• Completion of high school diploma <br />• Completion of job training <br />• Access to jobs with higher pay, employment with benefits plan <br />• Access to dependable transportation <br />If he is a father: <br />• Regular child support payments <br />• Regular and productive contact with the child <br />• Shared responsibility /joint decision - making for child <br />• More responsibilities taken for household chores and errands <br />• Greater discussion around bill payment, child care issues and shopping <br />• Shared responsibility for medical visits <br />• Plan for continued contact with the child <br />We will be interested in measuring the status of the families of the <br />participants in this program as well. It is an objective of the program that the <br />economic status of both the birth family of the adolescent and the family of <br />paternity will be improved as a result increased <br />t capabili <br />oftthend <br />self - esteem of the adolescent male.
