M <br />necessary to be competitive in this "tight" market. Durham Technical <br />Community College will coordinate directly with the OFF Program to <br />develop training on a contractual basis. The OFF program will cover the cost <br />of tuition and books. Course work that does not require technical equipment <br />will take place at arranged sites in Orange County. Access to Alamance and <br />Piedmont Community Colleges will be available as well. <br />Job Readiness <br />Q :What is your definition of success? <br />k "Getting a well- paying job. "( older male) <br />Job readiness will prepare OFF participants to enter the job market by <br />increasing their level of competence in job seeking and life management <br />skills. Many of the young males targeted for the OFF program did not grow <br />up with adequate work role modeling from the home or neighborhood. In <br />the Orange County JOBS program, there are participants now who are from <br />families with two and three generations receiving AFDC. For many of these <br />males, education and direct experience will be necessary. <br />Durham Technical Community College will work with OFF participants <br />through their Human Resource Development Program. This program <br />includes information on the transition to steady employment, individual <br />financial realities, time management and confidence building. Job readiness <br />will provide the skills necessary for a successful future. <br />Community Work Experience <br />This program will acquaint OFF participants with the work place and help <br />them to utilize their technical and personal skills gained through job skills <br />training and job readiness. Participants will be placed in public or private <br />non - profit agencies. While there will be no financial compensation, males <br />will be able to strengthen their actual work experience before they begin a job <br />search. The case advocate will meet with the work site supervisor and the <br />OFF Participant to develop an appropriate job description. <br />Job Search <br />While job seeking skills will be developed during the job readiness phase, <br />they will be implemented through the job search component. Participants <br />will be coached by their advocate through the process of finding employment. <br />The advocate will provide job market information and placement referrals. <br />The Job search phase will be intensive and well - structured. Each individual <br />plan will describe the specific approach anticipated. <br />On the Job Training <br />Joint Orange /Chatham Community Action (JOCCA) will provide training <br />and employment opportunities for OFF Participants.
