O R A N G E C O U N T Y <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: June 25, 1991 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item # =V—A <br />SUBJECT: <br />Operation Desert Storm Resolutions <br />DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No <br />County Manager <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Attachment 1 - Proposed resolution John Link <br />prototype to use in <br />recognizing individuals TELEPHONE NUMBERS <br />who served in Operation Hillsborough -732 -8181 <br />Desert Storm Durham - 688 -7331 <br />Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Chapel Hill- 967 - 9251/968 -4501 <br />PURPOSE: To recognize and show appreciation for all Orange <br />County residents who provided active military service <br />during Operation Desert Storm. <br />BACKGROUND: A list of Orange County residents who served in <br />Operation Desert Storm is currently being developed. <br />An advertisement outlining the Board of Commissioners <br />desire to collect the names of those County residents <br />who served in Operation Desert Storm will run in area <br />newspapers between June 23 and July 7. County <br />residents who served in Operation Desert Storm will be <br />invited to a special reception on August 3, 1991 prior <br />to the Commissioners meeting. These veterans will be <br />formally recognized with Resolutions of Appreciation <br />during the August 3, 1991 Commissioners meeting. <br />RECOMMENDATION: To endorse the Resolution of Appreciation as a <br />prototype to use for all County residents who served <br />during Operation Desert Storm, and to endorse the <br />reception planned for August 3, 1991. <br />
