A second primary function of the project was
to develop a water quality data baseline which could be used
to determine the degree of degradation of water quality which
could be anticipated to occur as a result of increasingly
dense land use and population growth in the region.
The first three years of the project will be completed in
October, 1991. Much water quality data has been gathered and
analyzed, and existing water quality has generally be found to
be of a quality that is higher than anticipated. However,
there is still much to be learned about the quality of the
region's water supplies and the sources of water quality
impacts. The steering committee which oversees the water
quality monitoring project has recommended that the project be
extended for an additional four year period in order to obtain
and analyze additional data. To extend the project, all
existing participants must be willing to amend the existing
interlocal agreement which governs the funding of the project.
