0 <br />Town of Chapel Hill 3-3 <br />There are three compost demonstration sites to inform the public about proper <br />methods for backyard composting, located at Culbreth Junior High School, the Chapel <br />Hill Community Center, and the Agricultural Extension Office in Hillsborough. <br />The recycling program continues to provide public education on solid waste and to <br />support both volunteer and for - profit recycling activities through referrals, <br />technical assistance, logistical support and publicity. <br />Key Objectives for 1991 -92 <br />To maintain and expand existing programs, including new drop -off sites, addition of <br />tin can collections, expansion of commercial glass and cardboard, multi - family <br />complexes and mixed paper at a central site (market permitting). <br />To develop mobile buy -back program to serve rural haulers and residents in order to <br />provide convenient monetary incentive to recycle, thereby increasing overall <br />recycling. <br />To provide periodic newsletters to the public to keep them informed on solid waste <br />and recycling issues. <br />To operate compost demonstration sites, conduct workshops and sell at least 100 <br />backyard composting bins to public. <br />To conduct a household hazardous waste program that includes identification of <br />wastes in the community, education and collection. <br />To conduct outreach and teacher training; continue to work with businesses, <br />community organizations and over 400 recycling volunteers. <br />To recycle 4,100 tons of paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum, plastic, steel and other <br />materials. <br />
