41 <br />- Associated with events that have made a significant <br />contribution to the broad patterns of our history; or <br />- Associated with the lives of persons significant in our <br />past; or <br />- Embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or <br />method of construction or that represent the work of a <br />master, or that possess high artistic values; or <br />- Have yielded, or may be likely to yield, information <br />important in prehistory or history. <br />It should be noted that the majority of listings in the <br />National Register qualify because of their significance to a <br />particular community or state. Only a fraction, less than 10 <br />percent, have been entered because of their significance to the <br />nation. Among the sites listed in the National Register in the <br />unincorporated portions of Orange County are the Paisley -Rice Log <br />House, located northeast of Mebane in Cheeks Township; Moorefields, <br />located southeast of Hillsborough in Cheeks Township; St. Mary's <br />Chapel, located northeast of Hillsborough in Little River Township; <br />and the Bingham School, located on N.C. Highway 54 near the <br />Alamance County line. <br />P sence of Historic Sites Points <br />Site listed in National Register of 10.0 <br />Historic Places <br />Located adjacent to site listed in National 7.5 <br />Register of Historic Places <br />Site of County significance 5.0 <br />Located adjacent to site of County significance 2.5 <br />No significant historic sites located on or 0.0 <br />adjacent to property <br />Farms which contain a site or structure listed in the National <br />Register have been assigned the highest number of points (10), <br />while farms which abut National Register sites are assigned 7.5 <br />points. Such farms are considered important because of the buffer <br />they provide.. They may also represent part of a larger area which, <br />together a: National Register site, forms an important rural <br />landscape:war�hy of preservation. <br />Farms which contain a site, other than a National Register <br />site, identified in the 1986 Inventory and farms adjoining such <br />sites are assigned progressively fewer points. Farms with no <br />significant historic sites do not qualify for points. <br />RELATIVE IMPORTANCE OF FACTORS <br />Following the selection of site assessment factors and the <br />assignment of points to specific site conditions, the relative <br />importance (weight) of each factor is considered. Weights ranging <br />from one to 10 are assigned, with the most important factor being <br />
