DISABILITY AWARENESS WEER <br />IN <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />WHEREAS, we recognize that persons with disabilities are people <br />who also have abilities and talents, and <br />WHEREAS, with mutual respect and reasonable consideration persons <br />with disabilities, mental or physical, can participate <br />in our society to their fullest capacity, and <br />WHEREAS, while Orange County and the State of North Carolina offer <br />many opportunities for individuals with disabilities, <br />much of our citizenry remains unaware of the capabilities <br />and aspirations of persons with disabilities, and <br />WHEREAS, Orange County recognizes that persons with disabilities <br />are a resource we cannot afford to overlook or not use <br />to their highest potential, and <br />WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina has proclaimed May 5 through <br />May 11, 1991 as "Disability Awareness Week ". <br />NOW, <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners wish to renew their commitment to take <br />those steps necessary for the full integration of people <br />with disabilities into society by proclaiming May 5 <br />through May 11, 1991 as "DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK", and <br />urge all our citizens to participate in activities during <br />this week and become more aware of the needs and <br />capabilities of persons with disabilities. <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF this 6th day of May, 1991. <br />
