15 <br />ongoing Department of social Services and Juvenile Court <br />Counselors have jointly conducted parenting education <br />meetings for parents of abused and /or neglected children <br />in northern orange County. This effort is now being <br />expanded.to southern orange County and will have a <br />counseling focus. <br />ongoing Department of Social Services and Juvenile court <br />Counselors have initiated an inter- agency /inter- <br />disciplinary planning group which is developing support <br />groups for troubled teens. Two groups are initially <br />planned, one serving central and northern, and one serving <br />southern, orange County youth. <br />2.Develop training services: <br />-Focus on how single parent families can meet <br />adolescent needs <br />-Focus on how parents can meet family needs when both <br />work <br />3-Support "moderately" distressed families as well as those <br />with acute needs. <br />4.Sensitize families to needs of adolescents. <br />Completed The 1989 Bridging the Gap Conference addressed issues <br />including strengthening parent -child communication. <br />5.Assist families in tapping into resources of extended <br />families or components for lack of extended family. <br />6.Develop partnership with the business community to respond <br />to employee family needs. <br />7.Increase option for out -of -home placements while families <br />restructure. <br />ongoing The Department of social Services volunteer Emergency <br />Families for Children program initiated in 1989 recruits <br />and trains community volunteers to provide short -term out - <br />of- home - placements for children in distress. 5 children <br />were placed in 1990; 2 have been placed in the first two <br />months of 1991.
