71 <br />8.Develop a transportation network to get teens to <br />activities. <br />ongoing The Orange County Human Services Transportation Study <br />Steering Committee has considered alternatives which <br />include increasing teen access to public transportation. <br />There will be an expanded Prospect Hill shuttle, going to <br />Chapel Hill and Carrboro, with increasing availability of <br />seats for the general public. <br />NEW INITIATIVES <br />ongoing County Recreation and Parks Department efforts include a <br />new staff position which includes teen programming, County <br />Commissioner approval for a public pool for the 1991 -1996 <br />Capital Improvements Plan, and the development of numerous <br />new programs available to teens. <br />Ongoing Recent Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department teen <br />programming initiatives include sponsorship of a scout <br />Explorer troop, and collaboration with the Chapel Hill/ <br />Carrboro City Schools in developing a Teen Rock Orchestra. <br />Ongoing Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department efforts include <br />assignment of a staff member to liaison with teen groups <br />and spend at least 50 of their time on teen programming. <br />New programs include improving the Junior officials <br />Program, and teen summer camps. <br />Page 11 <br />
