Ongoing Chapel Hill - Carrboro City schools have added numerous new <br />semester offerings. An additional industry education <br />coordinator was hired in fall 1990 to provide more career <br />development counseling for non - college bound students. <br />ongoing Two new vocational classes were added to the Orange <br />County middle schools curriculum in fall 1990, and high - <br />risk students not eligible for Federally- funded programs <br />have been targeted and encouraged to take these courses. <br />2.Develop partnerships with employers to support high school <br />completion by not hiring fifteen to nineteen year olds <br />unless they stay in school and by giving them flexible <br />work hours. <br />Ongoing The Orange County Dropout Prevention /At -Risk Coordinator, <br />hired in December 1989, will convene a Community Advisory <br />Council by March 1991. The Council responsibilities <br />will include developing business - school partnerships. <br />Ongoing The Chapel Hill - Carrboro City schools and the orange <br />County schools At -Risk Coordinators are jointly examining <br />school- business partnership models. <br />3.Add counselors at Orange High School to increase ratio to <br />two counselors per grade. <br />ongoing one counselor was added to the orange High school faculty <br />in fall 1989. A system -wide psychologist position was <br />also added in fall 1989, with the psychologist primarily <br />responsible for orange High school. <br />4.Continue successful intervention projects, such as the <br />Medical Concerns Assessment Team, Action Team, and <br />guidance groups. <br />ongoing Orange High School continues to utilize an Action Team and <br />support groups for high -risk students. The Drop -out <br />Prevention /At -Risk Coordinator and the Alcohol and other <br />Drug Education Coordinator work with the six elementary <br />and middle schools to establish and /or strengthen site - <br />based problem solving -teams serving at -risk students. <br />Ongoing Chapel Hill - Carrboro City Schools continue to utilize core <br />groups at Chapel Hill High school, and student Assistance <br />Teams in the middle schools, for high -risk students. An <br />Alternative Education program for high -risk students has <br />also been instituted at the high school. <br />Page 5 <br />
