PUBLIC HEARING YES: NO:XX <br />------------------------ <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: PAM JONES <br />EXT 2650 <br />LEASE Telephone Number - <br />LETTERS OF SUPPORT: Hillsborough -732 -8181 <br />TASK FORCE Chapel Hill -967 -9251 <br />CHAPEL HILL Mebane -227 -2031 <br />Durham - 688 -7331 <br />PURPOSE: To consider a lease with the Elliott Center Investors for <br />space at The Galleria, in which to establish a Chapel Hill Satellite <br />Senior Center. <br />BACKGROUND: On April 16, 1991 the Board of Commissioners took action <br />to commit the County to lease space at The Galleria, contingent upon <br />the following: <br />1. An expression of commitment by the Town of Chapel Hill in <br />providing support for program staff and operations for the Senior <br />Center, prior to the Commissioners' final approval of the lease. <br />2. An expression of commitment by the Task Force on Southern <br />Orange Senior Center Space to raise the necessary funds to: <br />a. upfit the space to meet programming needs; <br />b. provide funds for any additional operational expenses, not <br />provided by the town of Chapel Hill; and <br />C. provide funds to pay the lease costs for any additional <br />leased space in The Galleria beyond the base square footage of <br />6,102 square feet of ground floor space and associated <br />mezzanine area for each year of the five year lease period. <br />Per attached correspondence from the Town Manager, Cal Horton, the <br />Council will consider whether to make direct financial contributions to <br />the operation of the Senior Center as a part of their budget <br />deliberations during the next several weeks. The Chapel Hill Board <br />will continue their budget deliberations on May 6, with adoption of the <br />budget targeted for May 28. <br />
