I <br />O RANGE C O U N T Y <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: MAY 6, 1991 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item # Vd2_G <br />CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON SCHOOL CAPITAL NEEDS <br />DEPARTMENT: COUNTY MANAGER PUBLIC HEARING: Yes _X —No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />MANAGER'S OFFICE, EXTENSION 2300 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough - 732 -8181 <br />Durham - 688 -7331 <br />Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Chapel Hill - 967- 9251/968 -4501 <br />PURPOSE: To confirm the composition of the Citizens Advisory <br />Committee on school capital needs. <br />BACKGROUND: At the February 19, 1991, County Commissioners meeting <br />the Board determined that a future bond issue would <br />address the single purpose of school capital needs. <br />The Commissioners also agreed that a Citizens Advisory <br />Committee similar to the 1988 committee would be very <br />helpful in confirming and prioritizing school capital <br />needs. The committee would have the following <br />responsibilities: <br />1. To review identified Capital Projects as prepared <br />by the two school systems that cannot be funded <br />through present pay -as- you -go resources <br />2. To prioritize these projects for funding <br />3. To recommend to the County Board of Commissioners <br />a schedule for funding these projects to include <br />timeframes and amounts for future bond issues <br />4. To recommend the appropriate combination of <br />revenue sources <br />The Clerk to the Board is advertising in local <br />newspapers to solicit response from citizens <br />interested in serving on the committee. <br />
