The <br />goal of the project is to assist the parent in achieving self - <br />sufficiency through improving decision making, strengthening <br />family relationships and increasing self esteem. Teenage <br />parents are the major focus of this project. This grant totals <br />$23,906 and no County funds are required. <br />(5) Due to the increase in the number of General Assistance <br />applications, the Department of Social Services has exhausted <br />these funds. The number of applicants have increased by 15% <br />from last year at this time and are anticipated to increase even <br />more by June 30. During the 1990 -91 budget process, $23,750 in <br />County funds were allocated to the AFDC Emergency Assistance <br />program. The Emergency Assistance program has been frozen at <br />the State level leaving $5,000 in County funds unexpended. <br />This amendment will reduce the anticipated State EA revenue <br />by $15,000 thereby allowing the transfer of the County funds to <br />the General Assistance program. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): To adopt the proposed budget ordinance amendments, <br />approve the establishment of a permanent full -time Social Worker I <br />position, and authorize Chair to sign the Maternal Care Coordination <br />contract. <br />
