2
ANIMAL PROTECTION SOCIETY OF ORANGE COUNTY
1081 AIRPORT ROAD • CHAPEL HILL. NORTH CAROLINA 27514
apsTELEPHONE 919 - 967 - 73,83
Moses Carey, Jr., Chair
Orange County Commissioners
PO Box 8181
Hillsborough, NC
Dear Mr. Carey:
Humane societies throughout the United States are joining to-
gether to celebrate April as "Prevent -a- Litter" (PAL) month.
This celebration will include increased efforts on our part to
raise the public's awareness of the tragedy of pet overpopula-
tion, to provide information on spaying and neutering pets, and
to provide responsible pet ownership information in outreach
programs.
APS asks the Orange County Commissioners to share in this assault
on pet overpopulation by declaring April "Orange County Prevent -
A- Litter Month." This will help focus attention on one of our
critical problems and assist us in our efforts to get the message
to as many people in Orange County as possible during the month
of April.
Included in the planned festivities is a "PAL" festival co-
sponsored with the Chapel Hill Downtown Merchants Association; a
"Rabies Clinic and Spay /Neuter Information Booth" at Weaver
Street, Carrboro, co- sponsored with the Carrboro Animal Control
Unit; a booth at Apple Chill Fair distributing responsible owner-
ship information and selling low -cost spay /neuter certificates;
and constant public service announcements and printed media re-
leases to support our cause of lowering the number of unwanted
animals in Orange County.
Sincerely,
Pat Sanford
Executive Director
March 11, 1991
