3
JANIES G. NlART1N
GOVERNOR
PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK
1991
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
The quality of life in North Carolina depends on the
health of our people and the environment in which we live.
North Carolinians are improving their health as a major
defense against the personal and financial burdens caused by
disease and chronic illness.
Preventing disease and promoting healthy living also
depend on a comprehensive public health system. North
Carolina has a system that provides health services to
children and adults in every county. Our health services
system also strives to provide a clean and safe environment
for living.
This special observance is designed to inform the public
of achievements in public health, to help our citizens gain a
greater understanding of public health services, and to urge
a strong commitment to healthy living.
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, JAMES G. MARTIN, Governor of the
State of North Carolina, at the request of Secretary William
W. Cobey, Jr., of the North Carolina Department of Human
Resources, do hereby proclaim April 14 through April 20,
1991, as "Public Health Week" in North Carolina as a time for
all North Carolinians to take a more active role in making
this state a healthier, safer place to live.
JAMES G. MARTIN
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and
affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the
Capitol in Raleigh this twenty -sixth day of February in the
year of our Lord nineteen hundred and ninety -one, and of the
Independence of the United States of America the two hundred
and fourteenth.
