SAFETY STUDY AT FAUCETTE MILL ROAD (SR1328) AND HWY 70 <br />r In the past, we have requested a traffic signal at this <br />intersection because it is so dangerous (three people have <br />- been killed there). Thrttto warrant a traffics <br />the traffic volume is n ot high enough <br />signal. Therefore, we are requesting a safety study with <br />recommendations for improving safety with the same <br />possibilities as we requested for Nash St. (above). <br />l+. SYNCHRONIZATION OF THE DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC SIGNALS Downtown the <br />Hillsborough has a congestion problem especially g <br />morning and evening rush hours. We ask the N.C.D.O.T. <br />to synchronize and maintain the synchronization of our <br />downtown traffic signals. We ask you, if possible, <br />to <br />.synchronize the traffic lights to facilitate southern <br />traffic movement in the morning rush hours and northern <br />movement in the evening rush hours.. <br />6. ORIGIN /DESTINATION STUDY OF TRUCK AND RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC <br />ON CHIIRTON STREET (SR 1009) Hillsborough feels one of the <br />major methods of easing downtown congestion is the rerouting <br />of heavy truck traffic and rush hour traffic. An origin/ <br />destination study will provide valuable information we could <br />use in alleviating our downtown congestion problem. <br />7. STUDY OF OUR EASTERN AND WESTERN BYPASS ALTERNATIVES At 11 <br />this time, Hillsborough has not decided on the preferred <br />route any bypass should follow. We need the D.O.T.'s <br />expertise in analyzing our alternatives for future review <br />and presentation to our citizens. <br />In summary Hillsborough need D.O.T.'s assistance in solving <br />some very pressing traffic congestion and traffic safety problems. <br />Traffic congestion and delays will only become worse as our <br />anticipated growth occurs. <br />Thank you for your cooperation, and that of the excellent <br />D.O.T staff who cover Hillsborough, in meeting our current and future <br />traffic needs. <br />
