Department of Transportation, <br />Division 7, Hearing on April 17, 1991 <br />Presented by Mayor Horace H. Johnson <br />Welcome to our historic town of Hillsborough. We are pleased <br />you accepted our invitation to hold the annual T.I.P. hearing in- <br />our town and would enjoy hosting you in the future. Of course, one <br />benefit to Hillsborough is'you will be able to see first hand some <br />of our road improvement needs. As you know, Hillsborough is planning' <br />a reservoir, is located in close proximity to Chapel Hill, Durham, and <br />the Research Triangle Park, and is now bounded by Interstate 40. These <br />factors spell growth. We need the State's professional transportation <br />services as well as funding to accomodate our projected growth. <br />The following requests are Hillsborough's most immediate and <br />urgent road improvements. In the future, our requests may be more <br />ambitious and costly, but, at-this time we are trying to meet the <br />transportation needs of yesterday. <br />1. NEW BRIDGE ON THE ENO MOUNTAIN ROAD (SR1148) We understand <br />the NCDOT is planning to replace this bridge. However, if <br />at all possible, we ask.you to adhere to the first construction <br />schedule with the bridge being built in 1992. We ask you to <br />include the recommendations of L.J. Ward, Manager of the <br />Planning and Environmental Branch, from his January 31, 1991 <br />letter to the Chairman of our Occoneechee Park Committee, <br />Mr. Hervey McIver. A bridge at this site is Hillsborough's <br />greatest need. <br />la.
