3 <br />TOWN OF CARRBORO <br />1991 -1992 <br />TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM <br />PRIMARY <br />1. Widen NC 54 to a four lane boulevard facility from 15 -501 to the <br />intersection of NC 54 and Old Fayetteville Road. This project is <br />currently included in the State TIP as project U -2003. The Town <br />continues its support of this project. <br />C7"3-1�1 i <br />1. Widen the following streets with curb & gutter and bike lanes: <br />Hillsborough Road from West Main Street to Lorraine Street <br />West Main Street from Hillsborough Road to NC - -54 - <br />North Greensboro Street from Estes Drive to Hillsborough Road <br />This project is currently included in the State TIP as project U -2002 . <br />The Town continues its support of this project. <br />2. Widen Smith Level Road to five lanes from NC 54 to Rock Haven Road <br />with bikelanes and grade for sidewalks. <br />3. Widen Estes Drive to three lanes from the Carrboro Town Limits to <br />North Greensboro Street, and include bike lanes, and a right turn <br />lane. <br />4. Widen Jones Ferry Road to five lanes from Old Fayetteville Road to NC <br />54 and include bikelanes and grade for sidewalks. <br />5. Improvement of downtown circulation patterns. <br />6. Widen Homestead Road to a three lane section between Seawell School <br />Road and High School Road. <br />STATE SECONDARY <br />1. Widen the bridge on Smith Level Road over Morgan Creek to five lanes <br />and include, sidewalks and provisions for bicycle travel. This project <br />is currently included int the State TIP as project B -2159. The Town <br />continues its support of this project. <br />2. Redesign and improve the intersection of Homestead Road (SR 1777), - <br />Dairyland Road (SR 1112), and Old NC 86 (SR 1009). <br />TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM MANAGEMENT <br />1. Update and implement the recommendations of the Chapel hill- Carrboro <br />Signalization Study to purchase and install improved signal equipment <br />in the two towns and add left turn signals and actuated signals where <br />necessary. This project is currently included in the State TIP as <br />project U- -2504. The Town continues its support of this project. <br />2. Installation of- an actuated signal at the intersection of Old <br />Fayetteville Road (SR 1937) and Jones Ferry Road (SR 1005). <br />
