R -942, Widening US 15 -501 from Morgan Creek to the <br />Chatham County Line to a Multi -Lane Facility <br />The County opposes the widening of US 15 -501 south of <br />Chapel Hill from Mt. Carmel Church Road (SR 1008) to the <br />Chatham County line unless a southern connector road is <br />built between US 15 -501 and I -40 to handle traffic <br />between Chatham County and destinations in the Research <br />Triangle Park and Durham. Otherwise increased traffic <br />will come through the already congested intersection <br />between US 15 -501 and SR 1008 and funnel through Chapel <br />Hill. <br />3. R -2630, Durham Northwest Loop <br />On August 21, 1990, the County Commissioners voted to <br />approve the Durham - Chapel Hill- Carrboro (DCHC) <br />Thoroughfare Plan contingent upon the removal of the <br />Durham Outer Loop from the orange County portion of the <br />plan. <br />Projects Endorsed for Inclusion in the TIP <br />Orange County would like to give priority to identified <br />safety needs on existing roads and bridges and to other <br />transportation projects which foster alternatives to <br />automobile travel. <br />1. Safety Improvements to Dangerous Intersections <br />Based on the number and severity of accidents during the <br />period January 1986 - June 1989, the County recommends <br />that the following intersections be improved. <br />I -85 / SR 1120 <br />I -85 / NC 86 <br />US 70 / SR 1002 <br />NC 57 / NC 86 <br />US 15 / SR 1008 <br />I -85 / SR 1009 <br />(Mt. Willing Road) <br />(St. Mary's Road) <br />(Mt. Carmel Church Road) <br />(South Churton Street) <br />2. Improvements to Deficient Bridges (the County endorses <br />the following projects listed in the 1991 -97 TIP) <br />B -2598 (North Fork Little River; replace Bridge 154). <br />B -2100 (Haw River; replace Bridge #101). <br />B -2599 (Eno River; replace Bridge #185). <br />
