Box 25201 <br />Raleigh, North Carolina 27611 -5201 <br />SUBJECT: ORANGE COUNTY';TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM <br />REQUESTS <br />Dear Mr. Ward: <br />Orange County wishes,.both to request that certain <br />projects be included in`the NCDOT Transportation Improvement <br />Program and to recommend that other projects be deleted. <br />Pro'ects Recommended for.`Removal from the TIP <br />1. R -2538, Feasibility Study on Widening NC 54 from 1-40/85 <br />in Burlington to Chapel,Hill Bypass (Alamance - Orange <br />Counties) <br />On January 22 and February 19, 1991, the Board of <br />Commissioners conducted a public hearing for the purpose <br />of giving interested citizens and municipal jurisdictions <br />the opportunity to comment. At the hearing, comments <br />were received from the Planning Staff and Planning Board. <br />In addition, the Town of Carrboro, the Orange Water and <br />Sewer Authority, the Bingham Township Advisory Council, <br />and approximately 30 citizens from Orange and Alamance <br />Counties spoke or provided written comments about the <br />project. Based on the comments received and finding no <br />compelling reason for the project, the Board voted <br />unanimously on March 4, 1991 to voice its opposition to <br />the project and request that it be removed from the 1991- <br />97 Transportation Improvement Program. <br />YOU COUNT IN ORANGE COUNTY! <br />
