G R A N G E C O U N T Y <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: March 20, 1991 <br />1 <br />Agenda Abstract <br />Item # <br />SUBJECT: 1991 JOINT PLANNING PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULE <br />DEPARTMENT: Planning <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Chapel Hill 3/4/91 Resolution <br />PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X Nc <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Planning Director X2592 <br />PHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732 -8181 <br />Mebane 227 -2031 <br />Durham 688 -7331 <br />Chapel Hill 967 -9251 <br />PURPOSE: To consider scheduling two Joint Planning public <br />hearing dates for 1991. <br />BACKGROUND: The Joint Planning Agreement requires that Orange <br />County, and the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro <br />conduct a joint public hearing when amendments <br />to the JPA Land Use Plan and /or Map are proposed. <br />Joint public hearings are also required when changes <br />to the Agreement or Zoning Map for the Transition <br />Areas are proposed. <br />In the past, two Joint Planning public hearings have <br />been scheduled each year, one in the Spring and one <br />in the Fall. A public hearing calendar provides <br />staff as well as citizens the opportunity to develop <br />work programs and project applications in accord <br />with established deadlines and meeting dates. <br />Both the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro have <br />approved May 1 or May 2, 1991 and October 10 or <br />October 24, 1991 as possible hearing dates. The <br />hearings would be held at 7 :30 p.m. at a location to <br />be determined. <br />RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends that the Board of <br />Commissioners approve one of the two May dates and <br />one of the two October dates for Joint Planning <br />public hearings. <br />Upon approval, the Staff will notify the Towns of <br />Chapel Hill and Carrboro, prepare a specific <br />
