Department of <br />Transportation on a feasibility study for the <br />proposed widening of N.C. Highway 54 in Orange <br />County. <br />This matter was delayed for further consideration <br />from the Commissioner's March 4, 1991 meeting. <br />BACKGROUND: In October 5, 1990, NCDOT provided a copy of a <br />feasibility study of the proposed widening of N.C. <br />Highway 54 from 1 -85/40 in Burlington to the N.C. <br />Highway 54 bypass in Carrboro /Chapel Hill. NCDOT <br />asked for comments on the proposed project and <br />indicated there was not deadline for receipt of <br />comments. <br />At its October 15, 1990 meeting, the Planning Board <br />considered the feasibility study. In addition to <br />Staff comments, the Planning Board recommended that <br />other concerns be expressed to NCDOT. <br />At its December 18, 1990 meeting, the Board of <br />Commissioners considered the Planning Staff and <br />Planning Board comments, and set January 22, 1991 as <br />the public hearing date on the feasibility study. At <br />the request of the Board, representatives of the <br />Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro as well as OWASA <br />were invited to comment on the study. NCDOT <br />officials were also asked to attend and present <br />the study findings. <br />
