5. Need for a revenue source to support the Triangle <br />Transportation Authority. <br />* Bills authorizing local option County taxes on off- street parking <br />and rental car use are under consideration. <br />* We suggest the Council support the need for a funding source for <br />the authority without specifying a particular type of revenue. <br />6. Support for State -wide legislation to encourage recycling of <br />beverage containers through deposit and refund requirements. <br />* A few states have enacted this type of legislation. <br />* Increased recycling of glass is needed to meet solid waste <br />management objectives in Chapel Hill as in other cities. <br />7. Potential request for a local bill authorizing an entertainment <br />tax. <br />* As noted above, I recommend the Council support State -wide <br />legislation for local option admission taxes. <br />* The attached resolution R -5 would request a local bill <br />authorizing an entertainment tax of $1 for paid tickets to events <br />in facilities with more than 15,000 sets. <br />Recommendation: That the Council adopt the following resolution <br />R- i <br />g ncorporating items 1 through 6 above. <br />
