M <br />OR AN G E C O U N T Y <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: MARCH 4, 1991 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item # <br />I <br />SUBJECT: SPOTLIGHTING IN DEER AREAS AND HUNTING OR FISHING ON PRIVATE <br />PROPERTY <br />DEPARTMENT: COUNTY MANAGER PUBLIC HEARING: _S —Yes No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />MANAGER'S OFFICE, EXTENSION 2300 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough - 732 -8181 <br />Durham - 688 -7331 <br />Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Chapel Hill - 967 - 9251/968 -4501 <br />PURPOSE: To receive public comment on measures to address two <br />hunting issues that have been brought to the attention <br />of the Board of Commissioners: <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />(1) Spotlighting in deer areas <br />(2) Hunting (or fishing) on private property without <br />written permission <br />County Attorney Geoff Gledhill has researched the <br />appropriate measures available to the Board of <br />Commissioners in addressing these two issues and his <br />attached letter to the Board indicates the following: <br />(1) The Board may submit a resolution to the Wild- <br />life Commission requesting that Orange County be <br />included with those counties where spotlighting <br />is prohibited between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and <br />one -half hour before sunrise. <br />(2) The Board would need to seek local legislation to <br />adopt an ordinance requiring written permission <br />prior to hunting, trapping or fishing on private <br />property. <br />
