V
Donna L Dyer
Executive Director
Orange Community Housing Corporation
Post Office Box 307 - 1 16B West Main Street - Carrboro; NC 27510-0307
March 4, 1991
Ms. Tara Fikes, Director
Orange County Housing and Community Development
Post Office Box 8181
Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278
Dear Ms. Fikes:
Telephone: 919/967 -1545
FAX: 919/968 -4030
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Orange Community Housing Corporation
(OCHC), I am writing to express our continued support of the Whitted Forest ro'ect
in Hillsborough. Please submit this letter to the Commissioners at the Communiity
Development Block Grant (CDBG) public hearing on March 4, 1991.
In August, 1990, the OCHC Board provided funds to Orange Congregations in
Mission (OCIM) to retain a consultant, as OCIM evaluated their participation in the
project. In October, 1990, the OCHC Board expressed its support for Whiffed Forest
in a letter to the N.C. Housing Finance Agency. Since I began work as Executive
Director of OCHC in January, 1991, 1 have continued to provide technical assistance
to OCIM in their work with MB Corporation as partners in Whitted Forest. The project
addresses an important community need for affordable rental housing for families, and
with 35 units, the project is at an appropriate scale for a community the size of
Hillsborough.
A loan from the CDBG program could fill the gap in the Whitted Forest financing
package. In addition, repayment of these funds to Orange County could provide
funds for future housing initiatives, such as those envisioned by OCHC.
We encourage the Board of Commissioners to support the Whiffed Forest project with
an application for CDBG funds. If we can provide further assistance or information,
please contact OCHC at 967 -1545.
Thanks for your continued support for affordable housing efforts in Orange County.
Best regards,
#Ww"01-
Donna L. Dyer
Executive Director
