6
The total budget for the Minority Involvement Project is
$51,000. We have enclosed a complete project budget. Other
funding sources for the project include the Z. Smith Reynolds
Foundation, the Town of Carrboro, the Town of Chapel Hill, a
grant from the Orange County Youth Services Needs Task
Force's Community Based Alternatives program, and local
foundations and individuals.
We still need to raise $20,000 for the MIP this fiscal year.
A very generous individual has pledged $5,000 as a "challenge
gift." In order to receive the $5,000, we must raise an
additional $15,000 from other local sources by March 31,
1991.
The Minority Involvement Project addresses urgent needs in
Orange County. Nearly 100 minority teens under the age of 19
become pregnant each year -- almost 2 every week! These
young women in our community, their male partners and
friends, and all of us who live here, pay the price of the
serious short- and long --term consequences of unplanned
pregnancy.
A contribution from the County will help us build on our
recent successes. We look forward to further developing our
relationship with Ridgefield parents, even as the Minority
Involvement Project prepares to expand into Oakwood in
Carrboro.
Thank you for your time and for your serious consideration
of this proposal! We look forward to meeting with you in
January to discuss it further.
Sincerely,
a et Colm
cutive Director
mlt
enc
