whose names and addresses are currently listed in the Orange <br /> County tax records and whose property lies within 500 feet of <br /> the affected property. <br /> At the meeting, the Commission may accept the <br /> designation report, accept it with amendments, reject it or <br /> recommend it for further study. No property shall be <br /> accepted for designation as a landmark unless it is deemed <br /> and found by the Commission to be of special significance in <br /> terms of its historical, prehistorical, architectural, or <br /> cultural importance, and to possess integrity of design, <br /> setting, workmanship, materials, feeling, and/or association. <br /> If the report is accepted or accepted with amendments, <br /> the Commission shall forward a copy to the N.C. Department of <br /> Cultural Resources in accordance with the provisions of <br /> Section 3.5 below. <br /> The purpose of this meeting is for the Commission to <br /> receive the designation report as prepared by the planning & <br /> Inspections Department. An opportunity for citizens to <br /> comment on the proposed designation is also provided. No <br /> action is necessary except to accept the report as presented, <br /> accept it with changes, reject it or refer back to the staff <br /> for further study. An important consideration by the <br /> Commission is whether or not the property is of special <br /> significance (G.B.160A-400.5) . If the report is accepted, the <br /> Commission is then required to send a copy to the N.C. <br /> Department of Cultural Resources (NCDCR) for review/comment <br /> (G.S.160A-400.6) . <br /> Section 3.5 Review by the N.C. De artment of Cultural <br /> Resources <br /> The N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, acting <br /> through the State Historic Preservation Officer or his or her <br /> designee shall, either upon request of the Department or at <br /> the initiative of the Commission, be given an opportunity to <br /> review and comment upon the substance and effect of the <br /> designation of any landmark. All comments will be provided <br /> in writing. If the Department does not submit its comments <br /> to- the Commission within thirty (30) days following receipt <br /> by the Department of the report, the Commission and the Board <br /> of County Commissioners shall be relieved of any <br /> responsibility to consider such comments. <br /> G.B.16OA-400.6 requires that the report be sent to the <br /> N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (NCDCR) for review and <br /> comment.
