Commission, hereafter referred to as the "Commission", <br /> consisting of seven (7) members. Members shall serve without <br /> compensation, but they may be reimbursed for incidental <br /> expenses incurred in connection with official duties. <br /> To carry out a historic preservation program, the <br /> enabling legislation (G.S.IGOA-400.7) requires that the Board <br /> of Commissioners establish or designate a commission having <br /> at least three members. In lieu of establishing a Historic <br /> Preservation commission, the Board of Commissioners may <br /> designate the Planning Board to carry out such a program. <br /> section 1.2 Oualifications <br /> Each member shall reside within the territorial <br /> jurisdiction of Orange County. In addition, a majority of <br /> the members of the Commission shall have demonstrated special <br /> interest, experience or education in history, architecture, <br /> landscape architecture, archaeology or related fields. <br /> The enabling legislation requires members to meet <br /> certain qualifications (G.B.160A-400.7) . If the Planning <br /> Board acts as the Historic Preservation commission, at least <br /> three of its members must meet the qualifications.. Members <br /> must be residents of the territorial jurisdiction of Orange <br /> County as established pursuant to G.S. lS3A-320. <br /> Section 1.3 Tenure <br /> Each member of the Commission shall be appointed by the <br /> Board of County Commissioners. The tenure of office shall be <br /> three (3) years, and appointments shall be made so that one- <br /> third (1/3) of the terms expire in February of each calendar <br /> year. <br /> Members are eligible for reappointment for a second <br /> consecutive full term. However, after two (2) consecutive <br /> terms, a member shall be ineligible for reappointment for one <br /> year after the expiration of the previous terms. In <br /> determining eligibility of reappointment, appointments made <br /> to: fill vacancies for unexpired terms shall not be counted as <br /> a term. <br /> The Board of commissioners may determine the length of <br /> the terms, but they can be no more than four years (G.S.160A- <br /> 400.7) . The provisions concerning tenure, initial <br /> appointment, and reappointment are based on those applicable <br /> to the Planning Board. <br />
