O R A N G E C 0 U N T Y
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: February 25 1991
Action Agenda
Item #
SUBJECT: ZONING ORDINANCE TEXT
ARTICLE 8.8. 6 GOLF DRIVING AND PRACTICE RANGE
ARTICLE 4 . 3 PERMITTED USE TABLE
DEPARTMENT: PLANNING PUBLIC HEARING —x—Yes No
ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: Eddie Kirk
Extension 2582
Proposed Amendment
Applicant's Letter
Related Information TELEPHONE NUMBERS:
Hillsborough -- 732-8181
Durham - 688-7331
Mebane - 227-2031
Chapel Hill - 967-9251
PURPOSE: To receive public comment on a proposed Zoning
Ordinance amendment to add a new section addressing
Golf Driving and Practice Ranges as Class B Special
Uses in the Agricultural Residential (AR) and Rural
Residential (R-1) zones.
BACKGROUND: Mr. John T. Bradshaw has requested that Golf Driving
and Practice Ranges be permitted uses in the
Agricultural Residential (AR) and Rural Residential
(R-1) zoning districts. These ranges are currently
considered as Recreational Facilities for profit and
are permitted uses in the Community Commercial (CC-3) ,
General Commercial (GC-4) and Industrial-1 (I-1)
zones. Although Golf Driving and Practice Ranges may
be appropriate in low density residential areas,
special conditions should be attached which allow for
minimum disturbance in residential areas. This
amendment would specifically set up a Golf Driving and
Practice Range as a Class B Special Use Permit and
provide specific standards that would apply in
Agricultural Residential (AR) and Rural Residential
(R-1) zones.
RECOMMENDATION: The Planning Staff recommends approval of the proposed
amendment.
