Finally, <br /> questions regarding the speed limit on US 70 have been raised. <br /> GOAL: PROVIDE ADEQUATE AND APPROPRIATE TRANSPORTATION <br /> Objectives: <br /> 1. Encourage the development of car-pooling and a park-and-ride <br /> lot in Efland for residents working outside of the area. <br /> 2.. Recognize the strategic location of Efland in future and <br /> existing freeway transportation corridors; lay groundwork <br /> fora future transit stop in Efland as the "Gateway to <br /> the Research Triangle" . <br /> 3 . Encourage the creation of bike trails and walking trails in <br /> the community to enhance both nature awareness and <br /> alternative transportation. <br /> 4 . Analyze current and projected automobile trips on Efland- <br /> Cedar Grove Road in order to ascertain the appropriate level <br /> of service this road should provide. <br /> 5. Examine the current speed limit on U.S. 70 in relation to <br /> the community's transportation and safety needs. <br /> Specific Action Strategies <br /> a. Negotiate an easement for a park-and-ride lot near the <br /> Efland 1-85/40 interchange. Community to encourage car-pooling <br /> to Chapel Hill, Research Triangle Park and Durham. <br /> b. As a long-term strategy, ask Orange County to point out <br /> Efland's key location and potential as future transit outpost <br /> to groups working in transportation planning at the regional <br /> and state level. <br /> C. Ask the County Parks and Recreation and Planning departments <br /> to assist local residents in developing an Efland Open <br /> Space/Walkways Plan that is safety-oriented and would include <br /> sidewalks along roads such as U.S. 70. <br /> 29 <br />
