I <br />5 <br />FEB 12 191 12:47 CARRBORO NC PD. <br />P.2 <br />The following ordinance was introduced by Alderman and d ly <br />seconded by Alderman <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING R -2538, BIGHT OF WAY PROTECTION <br />FOR THE WIDENING OF NC 54 <br />FROM I -40/85 IN BURLINGTON TO THE BYPASS <br />WHEREAS, the proposed project would duplicate the route that the recen ly <br />built I -40 provides; <br />WHEREAS, the project would entice trucks to use NC 54 as a short cut to <br />avoid weigh stations; <br />WHEREAS, the project will cause negative environment consequences including <br />loss of forest land, agricultural land, and disruption of natural habitats; <br />WHEREAS, -the project will erode the integrity of the Inn at Bingham School, <br />which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places; <br />WHEREAS, the project bisects the southern tip of Cane Creek watershed and <br />traverses the middle of University Lake watershed, and will c <br />significantly the amount of impervious surface area in these watersheds; <br />NOW THEREFORE, THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE_TOWN OF CARRBORO RESOLVES: <br />Section I. The Board of Aldermen opposes the proposal to widen NC <br />from 1 -40/85 in Burlington to the Bypass (R- 2538). <br />section 2. This resolution shall be effective upon adoption. <br />
