The State gets an opportunity tc <br />review and make recommendations if the size of the system is greater <br />than 3,000gpd. <br />Commissioner Willhoit suggested going ahead with obtaininc <br />legislation that would give the County the ability to regulate those <br />things the County doesn't have the authority to regulate with regard ti <br />discharge systems and to set up a fund as a means of handling failini <br />systems. This would give the County the framework it needs to mov, <br />forward with making land use decisions. <br />In answer to a question from Commissioner Gordon on the statutor; <br />authority for alternative systems, John Link stated that there is n <br />additional legislation needed for the Health Department to address wha <br />is already its responsibility for individual septic systems. Th <br />program as proposed by the Health Board has the legislation t <br />implement. The question has to do with what process the County is goin <br />to use for the design, construction, monitoring and remediation of thes <br />larger alternative systems.
