Hiscori.r_ Preservation Ufficer, William S. Price, Jr. <br />This grant program, administered by the Histuri.c Preservation <br />Office (HPU), Division of Archives and History, is funded with <br />North Carolina's share of the federal Hisroric Preservation' <br />Fund, money Congress appropriates for preservation efforts. <br />Eligible projects include archi.tecLural and archaeological <br />surveys, preparations of nominations to the: National Register <br />Of historic Places, tha Certified Local Government program, and <br />public information and' education programs regarding <br />preservation aCLivities. Eligible grant applicants include <br />local oove,rnnu :nts, unive :r.sities, and private: non - profit <br />org:ani zat:ions. <br />An 0SLimatod $101,000 is available for Lhese grants, at least <br />$61,000 of which is SUL aside for local governments which have <br />been approved to participates in the Crartifried Local Government <br />Program. A competitive SeluCLiun proce }s is used to deLermine <br />all recipi.4nLS. GranL funds are' awarded on a maLching basis <br />With awards generally in LhQ $5- 15,000 range,. The State <br />Historic Preservation Officer, makes the final decision on <br />funding, selecting those projects which be }L Meet the <br />establishod prioritieSStated in the grant application'packets. <br />Grant funds muse be administered in accordance with federal and <br />state requirements.
