Reimer, Health <br />Director, Ext, 2411 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBER: <br />Hillsborough - 732 -8181 <br />Chapel Hill - 968 -4501 <br />Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Durham - 688 -7331 <br />PURPOSE: To respond to the Board of Commissioners request that the Board of <br />Health provide statistical information about public health <br />Problems. <br />BACKGROUND: In January, 1990, the Board of Commissioners established a goal <br />to, "assess the County's role in public health care." The Board <br />also established the following objective: "to make the most <br />practical and effective use of County resources in providing <br />public health care." The plan of action called for the following <br />steps: <br />A. The Health Board assess, disseminate information (statistical <br />norms) - October, 1990. <br />B. Prioritize health problems and develop policy - December, <br />1990. <br />C. Assure that health care needs are met - December, 1990. <br />The Orange County Health Department Community Diagnosis was <br />completed, based upon data provided by the State Centex- for Health <br />Statistics. The report compares data relevant to the Orange <br />County population with that of the State as a whole and highlights <br />those conditions that deviate the farthest from State -wide norms. <br />The report is submitted in fulfillment of Step A of the <br />Commissioners objective. It is intended to be used as background <br />information for determining the highest priority health problems <br />in the County. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): To receive as information. <br />
