11 <br />2-Provide a location for Durham Technical Community College <br />and /or Alamance Community College in Orange County in <br />order to establish permanent branches for residents. <br />Ongoing The Economic Development Commission is submitting a 1991- <br />1996 Capital Improvements Plan request which includes <br />permanent space for Durham Tech administrative staff <br />offices and classrooms. <br />3.Educate the community and plan the economic future of <br />orange County by defining needs and by developing <br />compatible resources. <br />Ongoing The Economic Development Commission has developed and is <br />implementing a public information program. A Speakerls <br />Bureau has been initiated, a slide show has been <br />developed, and a Public Issues Forum is planned for spring <br />1991. <br />4-Diversify the tax base by inviting environmentally <br />acceptable businesses and industry into Orange County. <br />5.Identify those types of businesses that Orange County <br />would like to encourage. <br />Completed The Economic Development Commission has identified <br />recruitment targets and appropriate county areas for <br />location. <br />6-Provide increased cooperative education programs to <br />introduce students to the work world. <br />NEW INITIATIVES <br />Ongoing The Economic Development Commission worked with Orange <br />High on an employer survey to clarify employer needs, and <br />continues to work with the schools to promote awareness <br />of business requirements. <br />
