ongoing The Teen Alternative Task Force also initiated a teen 9 <br />radio station and teen drama group which are continuing <br />at Orange High School. <br />5.Establishing a teen center in central /northern Orange <br />County. <br />6.Encourage commercial development that provides services to <br />youth, such as movie theaters and game rooms. <br />Completed There are numerous movie theaters and game rooms in <br />southern Orange. <br />Future New shopping center in Hillsborough is projected to <br />have a movie theater. <br />7.Continue to educate parents about teens and teens about <br />parents. <br />Completed County Recreation and Parks Department offered two seven - <br />week workshops on "How to Talk so Kids will Listen and Listen <br />so Kids will Talk". <br />8.Develop a transportation network to get teens to <br />activities. <br />ongoing The Orange County Human Services Transportation Study <br />Steering Committee is considering alternatives which <br />include increasing teen access to public transportation. <br />The Steering Committee plans to submit its report to the <br />Board of Commissioners for review and approval in January <br />1991. <br />NEW INITIATIVES <br />Ongoing Recent Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department teen <br />programming initiatives include the sponsorship of a <br />Scout Explorer troop, and collaboration with the Chapel <br />Hill /Carrboro City Schools in developing a Teen Rock <br />Orchestra. <br />ongoing County Recreation and Parks Department efforts include a <br />new staff position which includes teen programming, <br />County Commissioner approval for a public pool for the <br />1991 -1996 Capital Improvements Plan, and the development <br />of numerous new programs available to teens. <br />
