LEISURE <br />PROBLEMS /ISSUES /GAPS <br />-Need for coordination between agencies and community groups <br />providing services for youths: <br />-Need for facilities for specialized activities: <br />-Movie theaters <br />- swimming pools <br />-Need for "close -to- home" facilities /events /programs for youth. <br />8 <br />-Need for activities specifically designed for eleven to sixteen <br />year olds. <br />STATUS RECOMMENDATIONS /STRATEGIES <br />1.Create a clearinghouse to coordinate program and event <br />information, distributing /disseminating through a <br />consolidated newsletter /calendar of events. <br />3ngoing The Chapel Hill Teen,Center is establishing a <br />clearinghouse to provide information at the Center about <br />youth programs and events. <br />0ompleted The County Recreation and Parks departmental newsletter <br />now highlights a I'Teen Programs" section. <br />2.Create a toll free teen hot line to coordinate information <br />and referral concerning youth services. <br />ongoing The United Way Information and Referral Task Force is <br />currently assessing the need for an information and <br />referral phone service for all County services, including <br />youth services. <br />3.Identify a lead agency to coordinate and assist community - <br />based groups to plan programs with youth. <br />4.Plan with youth, not for them. <br />angoing The County 4-H and County Recreation and Parks Department <br />organized a Teen Alternative Task Force. The Task Force <br />assisted area teens in developing their own Teen Club, and <br />making their own rules and regulations for the Club. The <br />Teen Club initiated and is continuing to sponsor regular <br />teen dances. <br />
