STATUS <br />EMPLOYMENT <br />PERCEIVED NEEDS FOR CHANGE /IMPROVEMENT <br />1.Provide counseling and /or referral to enable individuals to <br />acquire skills: <br />-- Establish an employment council <br />-Need for job fairs <br />- Identify location of jobs <br />- Identify job requirements <br />- Differentiate between "career" and "jobs" <br />- Provide counseling and /or referral to enable <br />individuals to acquire skills <br />7 <br />Future Participants in the Welfare Reform Job Opportunities and <br />Basic Skills (JOBS) Program will be eligible for a variety <br />of job skills and job training opportunities. <br />Future The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Opportunities for Families <br />Fund (OFF) grant proposal includes as one of its goals <br />improved education and training for technical jobs. <br />2.Need more comprehensive transportation system: <br />-- Coordinate with existing human services transportation <br />system <br />- Expand current services <br />Ongoing The Human Services Transportation Study steering Committee <br />is considering alternatives that would improve access to <br />employment. <br />Ongoing The Triangle Transit Authority has adopted as one of its <br />work objectives to review the Human services Transportation <br />Study and to explore ways to provide a model comprehensive <br />rural transportation system. <br />3.More economic development: <br />-Need for forthcoming report from Economic Development <br />Commission <br />-Need to review and revise development restrictions <br />which discourage industry from locating in the County <br />Completed The Economic Development commission presented its strategic <br />Plan in March 1989. <br />Current The EDC and the Planning Board are proposing a joint <br />planning agreement to streamline the regulatory process. <br />
