EDUCATION <br />STATUS <br />PERCEIVED NEEDS FOR CHANGE /IMPROVEMENT <br />.1.Establish department of human services in schools: <br />--Link with existing human service agencies <br />-- Provide on- location personnel <br />-To provide outreach <br />-To bring needed services to potential clients <br />--To coordinate with service providers outside of school <br />-To provide parent education <br />3ngoing <br />Cooperative written agreements between school systems and <br />Social services, Mental Health and other human services <br />agencies currently exist. <br />:ompleted <br />orange County Schools and the County Department of Social <br />Services have developed a protocol which permits Social <br />Services to counsel /investigate student /family problems <br />when necessary and appropriate. <br />3ngoing <br />Chapel Hill /Carrboro City schools and the County Department <br />of social services have been meeting to develop a protocol <br />by May 1991. <br />ingoing <br />The drop -out prevention /at -risk coordinators from <br />Chapel Hill /Carrboro and Orange County Schools are jointly <br />examining human services delivery models that include on- <br />location human services personnel. <br />2-Enhance cooperative effort between schools and sources of <br />employment: <br />- Provide economic incentives to stay in school <br />- Ensure appropriate education /training for employment <br />- Coordinate school foods services curriculum and food <br />services employers <br />-To provide education /training for future service <br />providers <br />angoing The Orange County Dropout Prevention /Student - -At -Risk <br />Coordinator, hired in December 1989, will convene a <br />Community Advisory Council by January 1991. The Councills <br />responsibilities will include developing school /business <br />partnerships. <br />angoing The Economic Development Commission has worked with Orange <br />High School Vocational Staff to clarify employer needs. The <br />EDC Director has accepted membership on the Orange County <br />Educational Foundation and will focus on school - business <br />linkages. <br />2 <br />
