2
(4) The Chapel Hill- Carrboro City Schools received a total of
$630,000 in discretionary pay -as- you -go capital funds during 1989 -90.
A total of $400,000 was appropriated for asbestos removal and $230,000
was appropriated to help construct water lines at Chapel Hill High and
Seawell Elementary to meet code for firefighting capacity. The
original design plans for the fireflow project were not approved and
a more expensive alternative will be required. Funds that would allow
the fireflow project to proceed are available in the asbestos project,
although there is a possibility that additional funds could be needed
sometime in the future should additional asbestos problems be
discovered. The attached.capital project ordinances would transfer
$60,000 to the fireflow project and permit additional contract work to
be accomplished.
RECOMMENDATION(S):
Approve the attached budget ordinance amendments, grant project
ordinance, and capital project ordinances.
