iv <br />NARRATIVE OUTLINE <br />The 4 -H School Science Coordinator would introduce 4 -H Science Curriculum <br />to day care and after school program teachers. The available curriculum <br />includes the study of forrests, wildlife, insects, weather, animals, <br />gardening, electricity and water quality. Training and support materials <br />could provide unlimited hands -on science activities for young people in <br />after school programs. Volunteer with science expertise will be recruited. <br />The primary goals of the Science Education program are: <br />To promote an ecological awareness <br />To provide practical knowledge and skills in science <br />To provide hands -on activites that are age - appropriate <br />To promote mental, physical and emotional development <br />The following curricula would be included in the program: <br />embryology <br />electricity <br />entomology <br />horticulture <br />veterinary science <br />meteorology, <br />recycling <br />environmental education <br />Time Frame: <br />October /November- Meet with interested principels,after school teachers, <br />day care teachers and volunteers <br />December /August- Conduct educational programs for teachers and community <br />Volunteers <br />September- Program evaluation <br />Personnel required: <br />A 4 -H Science Coordinator would work throughout the year organizing materials <br />training volunteers and teachers, publicizing the project, and evaluating . <br />Interagency Coordination: <br />A cooperative relationship exists between the school system, day cares and 4 -H. <br />In addition, there are a number of environmental agencies and the University <br />of North Carolina that have a number of science resource people that could <br />serve as volunteers or program teachers. <br />
