NC 277119 <br />019! 59.0551 <br />(919) 549.9390 Fax <br />1989/90 Project Activities Accomplishments <br />1. <br />Regional cooperation and coordination has been enhanced <br />Avox <br />via the Economic strategies Committee, It meets bi- <br />B` "`° <br />monthly and provides a valuable forum for area leaders. <br />caonv <br />After years of urging by the TJCOG and others, the area <br />ca" <br />chambers of commerce are taking a step toward <br />coordination by entering into a cooperative arrangement <br />�80r J(i4c <br />for marketing the Triangle as a Region. Another <br />F <br />mechanism for promoting regional coordination is the <br />47" <br />Regional Marketing Group which meets quarterly. <br />Ho`v 2. <br />Despite concerted of forts by the Telephone Task Force <br />•:- :_ -,�<< <br />and months of work by the public staff of the NCUC, we <br />have not yet been able to convince either the Utilities <br />Commission or the phone companies to give us the metro <br />area toll -free telephone service we have been <br />requesting for four years. Judical and Legislative <br />remedies will be explored in the next year. <br />-z <br />-` =Iv 3. <br />The development, creation and grand. opening (Nov. 89) <br />:.z•� =� �;: <br />of the Research Triangle World Trade Center ( RTWTC ) was <br />the culmination of two years of staff work by TJCOG and <br />other organizations. Since the opening, staff has been <br />working to recruit members, provide services, develop <br />administrative, procedures and recruit staff for the <br />Center. Outreach to the entire region is the chief <br />goal for 90/91. <br />4. In 1989 & 90, Downtown Quarterly Exchange meetings were <br />held in Raleigh, _ - Apex., _.-._.Cary, .- Fuquay- varina, Hills- <br />borough, Sanford and Chapel Hill- Carrboro. Programs <br />are varied and have featured botY -local and outside <br />experts in the use of the arts, festivals, historic <br />properties, adaptive reuse of retail buildings and many <br />other mechanisms and promotional ideas for our <br />downtowns. <br />5. COG staff revised the 1987 version of the Metro Map. <br />This map has been a very valuable asset for the COG and <br />the region. It is used extensively by real estate <br />professionals and many other groups involved in <br />corporate siting and relocation of large numbers of <br />people to the area. <br />6. The operations of the data center have been' vigorously <br />upgraded over the past few years.
