`a
nitrification field for the camp's pool bath house.
sanitarians from the Environmental Health Section of the
Orange County Health Department were asked by camp staff to
inspect the septic tank system for the camp dining hall.
The camp staff indicated that the system had given trouble
the previous summer and was again showing signs of system
malfunction. Upon investigation, the County sanitarian
determined that the conventional septic system serving the
camp dining hall has failed as was evidenced by liquid
septage surfacing in the nitrification field. Camp New
Hope was directed to have the system repaired prior to the
opening of camp or the use of the dining facility for the
1991 season. The County Health Department's Environmental
Health Section has been working with the Camp staff and the
Camp's consulting engineers to effect the necessary repairs
to the system. The Environmental Health Section staff and
engineers from the NC Division of Health Services will
continue to work closely with the staff, administration,
and consulting engineers for Camp New Hope as requested and
as required to remedy the problems prior to the opening of
the camp for the 1991 season.
