24 <br />Disaster /Emergency - Any hurricane, tornado, storm, flood, high <br />water, wind driven water, earthquake, volcanic eruption, <br />landslide, mudslide, snowstorm, drought, fire, explosion, or <br />other catastrophe in any part of the United States which, in <br />the determination of the President, caused damage of <br />sufficient severity and magnitude to warrant major disaster <br />- ._,..ass- -stance- under -P s•L^: -93 --288 y­ above.- and - beyond- emergency - <br />services by the Federal government, to supplement the efforts <br />and available resources of the State, local government, and <br />disaster relief organization in alleviating damage, loss, <br />hardship or suffering. <br />Department of Crime Control S Public Safety (CCPS) - The North <br />Carolina agency responsible for State Crime Control and <br />Disaster preparation and response. <br />Division of Emergency Management (DEM) - The North Carolina State <br />agency tasked with protecting the general public from the <br />effects of natural or manmade disasters. <br />Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) - EBS is made up of AM, FM, and <br />TV Broadcast Stations and non - governmental electronic <br />communications operating in a voluntary organized manner <br />during natural /manmade emergencies or disasters at national, <br />state, or local levels.
