Article 6: Development Stanch <br /> Section 6.21: Flood Regulations <br /> (6) New and replacement sanitary sewage systems shall be designed to minimize or <br /> eliminate infiltration of floodwaters into the systems and discharges from the <br /> systems into floodwaters. <br /> (7) On-site waste disposal systems shall be located and constructed to avoid <br /> impairment to them or contamination from them during flooding. <br /> facilities shall not be permitted in SFHAs 35 - - - - - - <br /> (8) Fuel and Chemical Storage <br /> (a) With the exception of structures or tanks used for chemical and/or fuel <br /> storage incidental and necessary to the daily operations of a water <br /> treatment plant or wastewater treatment facility, the storage of the <br /> following chemicals and compounds shall be prohibited within SFHAs: <br /> fi) Acetone, <br /> iii) Ammonia, <br /> (iii) Benzene, <br /> • <br /> (iv) Calcium carbide <br /> (v) Carbon disulfide, <br /> (vi) Celluloid, <br /> (vii) Chlorine, <br /> (viii) Hydrochloric acid, <br /> (ix) Prussic acid, <br /> (x) Magnesium, <br /> (xi) Nitric acid, <br /> (xii) Oxides of nitrogen, <br /> (xiii) Phosphorus, <br /> (xiv) Potassium, <br /> (xv) Sodium, <br /> (xvi) Sulfur, <br /> (xvii) Acetylene gas, <br /> (xviii) Gasoline and any petroleum product, <br /> (xix) Lumber, <br /> ()o) Charcoal or coal dust, <br /> (xxi) Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), <br /> ss Staff is recommending deletion of this provision. These types of facilities should not be located in areas of the <br /> County prone to flooding due to the potential impact on surrounding property owners. Further, as the County <br /> already prohibits development, in general,within a floodplain as well as the storage of various chemicals there is <br /> no reason to allow for solid/hazardous waste disposal facilities,junk/salvage yards,and chemical storage facilities <br /> within the SFHA through any process. <br /> Orange County, North Carolina—Unified Development Ordinance Page 6-149 <br />
