There shall be no duplication of road names among governor ntal jurisdictions <br />C. Road n,:: ; ;os which are similar in sound shall he avoided. <br />Q. Efforts shall be made to preserve existing road names. <br />E. In cases where duplication of road naines exists: <br />a. Priority shall be given to the Torras (i.e. in cases ti•;,►ere <br />a road name is duplicated among jurisdictions, tI;E: County <br />shall adopt a new official name). <br />b. Priority shall be given to historic road names. <br />c. Priority shall be given to read names that also name <br />intitutions. <br />d. Priority 'shall be given to names of roads serving the <br />greatest number of dwelling units, businesses and in- <br />= <br />StitUtiOnS.•1 <br />e. Priority shall be given to narnes of those roads serving <br />the greatest numtIer of users. <br />f. Priority shall he given to those roads "longest in distance. <br />F. The following standard thoroughfare designations shall be used: <br />a. Circle. shall be the suffix, for short roads that return to thernselves. <br />b. Court or place shall be the suffix for cul -de -sacs, permanent <br />dead -end roads. <br />c. Higir•tay shall be the suffix for state, federal or interstate <br />hi ghr,ay s . <br />d. Loop shall be the suffix for roads that circle back to terminate <br />on the same road. <br />e. Road shall be the suffix for all other thoroughfares. <br />- <br />G . A continuous public road, running primarily in one direction, should have only <br />one name. <br />H . If a road jo7s sharply for a substantial distance, the portion running in <br />a different direction may be given another name provided the ; -L: <br />a. The road jogs at an angle of at least 60 degrees. <br />b. The portion of the road which jogs is at least 500 feet ir, length. <br />YI House Numbering <br />1. Actors - Two zctors will be involved in the House Numbering Procedure. The.; <br />are the Program Coordinator and the Board of Commissioners. Their roles are <br />k <br />outlined below:. <br />A. board of Commissioners <br />- adopts a house numbering ordinance <br />- has oversight over the program <br />- holds a minimum of 3 Public Hearings <br />- approves additional Public Information Meetings <br />adopts official house numbers <br />B.
